Visitors from Ireland
Eileen Collins, Margaret O’Mahoney
and Susan Collins Dunne
The Collins clan of Toledo pulled out all stops to entertain three
relatives from
County Cork, Ireland. The guests included Eileen Collins, Margaret
O’Mahoney
and Susan Collins Dunne. The three lovely ladies arrived September
29th at
Detroit Airport. Sunday began with a Mass at Historic St. Patrick’s
Church.
Eileen Collins was in Toledo in 2005. She was amazed at the
renovations of
the Church both inside and out. “The Church was quite beautiful
before, but
the improvements made since 2005 are marvelous, especially the new
steeple.”
There was a family gathering at Michael Collins’ home that evening.
Cousins
from Michigan and Tennessee came in to spend time with the Irish
cousins.
The week turned into a whirlwind of activities. Visits were made to
the Toledo
Botanical gardens, the Toledo Museum of Art’s Glass Pavilion, the Henry
Ford
Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. The ladies managed to get in “some
shopping”
There was a luncheon at The Claddagh. A Dinner party was held at The
Blarney.
Pub in downtown Toledo. A reception was held at Manhattan’s
Restaurant, also
in Downtown Toledo Thursday evening (October 4th.). Attending the
reception
were members Of the AOH, LAOH and the Toledo Irish American
Club.
Many T-shirts were seen promoting Michael Collins for City
Council.
Marty Lahey, owner of Manhattan’s provided free finger foods. Entertainment
was provided by John Connolly, along with Kathleen Connolly and Jim
Barker. One of the highlights of the evening was Susan joining with John
Connolly and Company for a “few” songs. There was a private dinner at
Dave’s Home Style
Food on Friday evening. It was a family gathering to bid
our guest a fond farewell. Their comments about their holiday
(vacation) included “It’s been absolutely fantastic” and “we are having a
ball”. My personal thanks to all who attended the reception on Thursday
evening. Wasn’t that a great party?
