NEWS FROM THE JOINT BOARD

 

 

     The Joint meeting was held on September 18 All members but one were present. The Hibernian Scholarship is complete and has gone to press at Central Catholic. The committee members are Tom King and John Mohr, Mur Bookmiller and Karen Sample. They did an excellent job on getting all the criteria. The scholarship is named  “Lucas County Hibernian Scholarship” established in 2006 in  appreciation of our chaplain Father Dennis P. Hardigan. It states that first consideration will be given to descendents of Hibernian members.


The criteria are:
1) must be of verifiable Irish descent. .
2) Must be a practicing Roman Catholic.
3) Three letters of reference – one of which must be from home parish pastor and
   
one must be from a teacher.
4) strong involvement in religious /civic activities.

5) Cumulative GPA of 3.0 in academic subjects.
6) 500 word essay describing how the Catholic faith, Irish traditions and /or culture
    has been an influence either personally to the applicant or on society as a whole.

To view the entire scholarship, go to the TOLAOH Web page. Thanks go out to the committee for exceptional work on this scholarship. Treasurer books were handed over to the new Joint Treasurer, John McNulty. The Christmas Party is slated for
December 9
at Blessed Sacrament.  Two new fund raiser projects were proposed.
On November 2
, a band from South Bend Indiana, Kennedy’s Kitchen will play at St. Clements Hall, and Brigids Cross will be playing there on December 14. The proceeds of these events will go toward funding our convention coming up in 2007. As always we will need the help of membership to work these fund raisers. Convention 2007 will be at the Perrysburg French Quarter Holiday Inn. We will need lots of volunteers to host a State Convention on July 12, 13, & 14. Many hands will make light work. Volunteer NOW, a sign up sheet has been passed around at the division meetings.
We will have our first convention meeting on Nov. 8th.
