Fellow Hibernians

This is not at all what I was planing to write about in this month's newsletter but, after reading Deacon Jim's comments in the bulletin and hearing Fr. Hartigan ask for donation's for the food pantry. I couldn't help from asking myself what could the Hibernians do to help? It didn't take me long to think- If everyone would bring some canned goods or a box of mac & cheese to our monthly meetings we could make a difference. It doesn't sound like much but, every little bit helps. So please do what you can. If you can't make it to the meeting's give Tricia or I a call and we'll come and pick up your donation 419-475-8893 or drop it off at 5940 Murnen.

Fellow Parishioners:

1 stopped by the rectory one afternoon several weeks ago. While I was there the doorbell rang. Upon answering the door I met a lady who told me that she had been directed to St. Patrick's by United Way to obtain food, I asked her to come around to the pantry and I would give her some bags of food. When I opened the door to the pantry there were eight more people standing there who had also been sent by United Way. Sister Dean, Deacon Tom and I hurriedly put together bags of food depending on the number of people in each family. We ended up providing enough food for twenty-eight people. Last week, Fr. Hartigan told you that our food pantry shelves are just about empty. From my experience that day I can assure you that there is a heavy demand for food. Each day brings more people to our door.

Deacon Tom told me that since January of this year we have provided food for 5,612 people from our food pantry. We also have given clothing vouchers to clothe 512 people. Our soup kitchen has served over eight thousand people, You have contributed a great deal to this effort to feed and clothe our neighbors. But we need to ask you for more. Please drop off your contributions of food in the boxes in the front of Church whenever you can. We will still take up a food collection on the first Sunday of each month, but we need to replenish our food supply almost weekly. Whatever you can do would be greatly appreciated.

May God's peace be with you,

Yours in Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity

Matt Cassidy
